What's New in Parker on the Web Version 1.7

Release Date:  July 21, 2014

New Content and Corrections

  • Added minor corrections to manuscript descriptions and summaries
  • Updated bibliography
  • Corrected a number of page duplication, missing page, and sequence errors

Known Issues

  • Rendering of special characters, although largely resolved, still requires a bit more work (primarily for the "export" function). The relationship between server-side settings and user operating system and browser combinations means that some fine-tuning needs to occur, in order to result in proper special character rendering in all cases.

The following operating systems and browsers were tested for compatibility with the current release:

  • Operating Systems: Windows 8, Mac OS X
  • Browsers: Internet Explorer 8, Safari 6, Firefox 30, Chrome 36
  • Note: Compatibility problems with other OS/browser combos are not anticipated, as long as they meet the basic requirement of modern browser use (Internet Explorer 6+), with JavaScript enabled.


What's New in Parker on the Web Version 1.6

Release Date:  May 28, 2013

New Content and Corrections

  • Selected journal article citations in the Parker bibliography are now live links to digital versions of those articles, enabling Parker on the Web subscribers to quickly navigate to the full-text scholarly resources and thus expedite their research. Approximately 1200 live links are now available in the bibliography. This functionality requires an institutional subscription to each vendor's journal database. This new feature is only available to Parker on the Web subscribers.
  • Added minor corrections to manuscript descriptions, summaries and one MS sequence file to correct errors in manuscript page image display.

    • Edited sequence files to correct various errors in manuscript page image display
  • Integrated corrected manuscript descriptions and summaries
  • Integrated approximately 100 new bibliographic citations entries along with numerous corrections
    • Includes over 80 references to Parker Library manuscripts from the recently-published Encyclopedia of the Medieval Chronicle (Brill, 2010), a comprehensive multi-authored interdisciplinary reference work

  • Implemented alternative "thumbnail view" to display special images such as bookmarks, edges, flaps, foldouts, spines, and spreads (all available images for the rolls are now present in "thumbnail view")
  • Implemented "basic view" to provide a more legible (though non-zoomable) view of all manuscript pages for non-subscribed users
  • Integrated numerous image reshoots and fixed sequence file problems to correct the rendering of images in page turn view

  • Implemented numerous accessibility fixes that better enable the use of adaptive technologies to navigate the site
  • Replaced the "Non-Roman" alphabetic browse list filter with "Greek"
  • Implemented a reduced set of stop words to properly sort browse lists
  • Modified the default browse list display to use the first alphabetic filter instead of displaying all the browse results
  • Implemented the sort of a predefined set of special characters with their alphabetic equivalents

What's New in Parker on the Web Version 0.6

Release Date:  May 21, 2008

New Features

  • Narrated video screencasts are now available via the Tutorial link, on the following help topics:
    • General Information
    • Browse and View Images
    • Search and View Images
    • Interpret MS Descriptions
    • Explore Bibliographic Data
  • Links have been added from the Bibliography to full-text versions of the Montague Rhodes James and James Nasmith catalogs, and to selected sources related to CCCC MSS 26 and 16.
  • The Legend has been activated, which is a useful guide to icons and other graphic features used to identify bibliographic source types, manuscript description elements, and print and email features. The Legend link is located in the top right area of the Bibliography search results screen.
  • Print, email and export (as PDF) search results have been added for Bibliographic search results.
  • Various enhancements to Browse, including direct links to the Bibliography, and sorting and navigational aids have been added to enhance usability.
  • A page-turn animation feature has been added, which is available in page turn view by selecting the "On" radio button in bottom right corner of screen.
  • Page navigation slider functionality has been added to inspect view, found at the lower left-hand corner of the inspect view screen.
